Cuisine in Boston is similar to the rest of New England Cuisine, in that it has a large emphasis on seafood, beef, pizza, veggies and dairy
products. Boston’s most famous dishes are New England Clam Cowder, fish and chips (mainly made with cod or scrod), baked beans, lobster, steamed clams or steamers, and fried clams.

Boston has many wonderful restaurants, including those serving various ethnic cuisines.
Since the early 1980′s Boston has been undergoing an unexpected Renaissance in its
culinary area, This has been by chefs of national stature. These famous chefs and their
respective restaurants have greatly
enhanced all food options in the Boston area. The
influence of Julia Child, a
long-time  local resident and  TV super star, has left behind her legacy.

The Union Oyster House is the oldest operating restaurant in the United States. Their menu includes oysters on the
half-shell served directly from an oyster bar, New England Clam Chowder, and a variety of other seafood
dishes. Quincy Market,
part of Faneuil Hall Marketplace, has a variety of restaurants, food shops and stands. Nearby is Cheers a
popular tourist dining spot for guests who enjoy a bit of history along with good dining.

China Town has
a variety of Asian restaurants, bakeries, and stores. In addition to dim sum ( a style of Chinese food prepared as small bite-sized or individual portions) and other Chinese dining
styles, there are Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean and Thai restaurants in the
neighborhood as well. Families travel a great distance to enjoy the authentic flavors of these special cooking techniques.

The North End
has a variety of Italian restaurants, pizzerias, and bakeries. Newbury Street has many
ethnic street cafes, while Copley Place houses multiple restaurants
including a food court in Prudential Center. This is the home of Legal Sea food, a New
England institution that offers a variety of gourmet seafood plates and platters.

Boston has a tradition of holding an active weekly open to the public Farmers Market known
locally as Haymarket center. Haymarket caters mainly to
selling produce, fresh fruit and vegetable , though meats can also be bought at
local establishments.
